Dressing a naked quasar : star formation and AGN feedback in HE 0450 − 2958

چکیده
We present Australia Telescope Compact Array radio continuum observations of the quasar/galaxy system HE0450−2958. An asymetric triple linear morphology is observed, with the central radio component coincident with the quasar core and a second radio component associated with a companion galaxy at a projected distance of 7 kpc from the quasar. The system obeys the far-infrared to radio continuum correlation, implying the radio emission is energetically dominated by star formation activity. However, there is undoubtedly some contribution to the overall radio emission from a low-luminosity AGN core and a pair of radio lobes. Long baseline radio interferometric observations of the quasar core place a 3σ upper limit of 0.6mJy at 1400MHz on the AGN contribution to the quasar’s radio emission; less than 30% of the total. The remaining 70% of the radio emission from the quasar is associated with star formation activity and provides the first direct evidence for the quasar’s host galaxy. A re-anlaysis of the VLT spectroscopic data shows extended emission line regions aligned with the radio axis and extended on scales of ∼20 kpc. This is interpreted as evidence for jetcloud interactions, similar to those observed in radio galaxies and Seyferts. Context. Interest in the quasar HE 0450-2958 arose following the publication of the non-detection of its expected massive host, leading to various interpretations. Aims. This article investigates the gaseous and stellar contents of the system through additional VLT/FORS slit spectra and integral field spectroscopy from VLT/VIMOS. Methods. متن کاملThe Host Galaxy of the Quasar
A recent study suggests that the quasar HE 0450−2958 is hosted by a galaxy substantially fainter than that inferred from the correlation between black hole mass and bulge luminosity. As this result has significant bearings on galaxy and black hole evolution, we revisit the issue by performing an independent analysis of the data, using a two-dimensional image fitting technique. We indeed find no...

متن کاملQuenching Star Formation: Can AGN Do the Trick?
We post-process galaxy star formation histories in cosmological hydrodynamics simulations to test quenching mechanisms associated with AGN. By comparing simulation results to color-magnitude diagrams and luminosity functions of SDSS galaxies, we examine whether “quasar mode” or “radio mode” AGN feedback can yield a realistic red sequence. Both cases yield red sequences distinct from the blue cl...
متن کاملFurther evidence for a quasar-driven jet impacting its neighbour galaxy: the saga of HE0450-2958 continues
HE0450-2958, an interacting quasar-starburst galaxy pair at z = 0.285, is one of the best known examples of strong star formation activity in the presence of a quasardriven jet. We present new multi-band JVLA-imaging covering 1 to 6 GHz and reaching an angular resolution of up to 0. 6 (a 6-fold improvement over existing radio data). We confirm the previous detection of a spatially extended radi...
